The very active volcano, Mount Agung, is still considered holy by the Balinese people. In their earth-based version of Hinduism, the full moon is also celebrated in the temples and ashrams. I thought that Indonesia mainly practiced islam. Is there a large Hindu population as well? Or is it just Bali?
It’s true that Indonesia is predominantly Muslim. However, the Bali island is mostly Hindu. Further east, there is an island that is mostly Christian but I don’t remember what it is. Away from the tourist cities, the Balinese are truly friendly, honest, helpful and safe.
